The Bear Stories: Volume One
Here's a book that I randomly discovered while actually looking at another book that had half-naked women on the cover. After a quick glance at the interior, I knew The Bear Stories was something I wanted on my coffee table at home.
The Good: If you like randomly rude comedy (and you must because you're on MY website) then this will be a great read for you. It's got everything you could ever hope for; from a cute bear peeing on a hot dog cart, to the same bear buying pornography and then getting tossed out of a strip club for touching some boobies. There's an eerie creepiness to The Bear because he's always got this wonderful smile on his face... even when he delivers such lines as "Stupid fuckin' little cunts..." and when he runs an old lady down on the street. It's the type of laughs that can get contained withing a 20-minute read.
The Bad: Well, the cover could be a little misleading because of how cute the Bear is... but screw it. Can't find anything else wrong with it.
The Verdict: I'm assuming that since this says "Volume One" on the cover that we'll be treated to another story later on. It's just really nice to see funny comics again. Somewhere over the last fifteen years it seems like a law was passed that stipulated that the only comics that were treated with any dignity were the ones called "Graphic Novels". A funny book is a funny book. And a comic is also called a funny book. If you see The Bear Stories laying around somewhere, read it. It won't change your life, but you might have to change your undies if you laugh too hard.
