Buckcherry - All Night Long
Buckcherry's new album, All Night Long, featuring the hit single of the same name.
The Good: I've said it before and I'll say it again: Buckcherry is the best rock band currently on the planet. Their new album is another dose of balls-in-your-face rock music that will get you outta your chair and throw your fist in the air. Some people might call this music "formulaic", but Buckcherry is just giving their fans what they want to hear. If they deviate too far from what they're known for, the fans will get uninterested. I heard the first single, "All Night Long" about a month ago on Twitter and it didn't do much for me, but when I hear it on the album and how it flows into the rest of the tracks, I really dig it now. "It's A Party" could be the follow-up single, and also an early fall anthem much like "Lit Up" and "Crazy Bitch" were. The stand-out track for me has been "Liberty". If you're like me and you picked up the Deluxe Edition of the album, it comes with a six-track bonus acoustic EP called "Reckless Sons", and really for the extra five or six dollars, it's totally worth it. There's a song on it called "Fire Off Your Guns" that'll really hold onto you.
The Bad: Okay Buckcherry, where's the swearing? It struck me as odd for a band that is famous for dropping F-Bombs to choose not to have any swearing on the album whatsoever. Are they trying to gain more commercial success? Did Josh Todd just grow up a little bit and want his kids to be able to listen to his music without him having to explain what the clitoris is? The lyric "I wanna dig it in the jailhouse rock,
Wanna feel it from my head right down to my socks" could've easily been "cock" instead of "socks". Maybe I'm just being picky or maybe nostalgic. Also, skip over the song "Our World". I truly believe that rock bands should just rock and avoid political issues in their music. Buckcherry is not U2 thankfully.
The Verdict: Another solid album from Buckcherry. Many people are saying this is the proper follow-up to 15, where their last album Black Butterfly failed. I liked that last album, but I can see how All Night Long is the better successor. And if you can, get the version with the acoustic songs on it.
