Guns N' Roses - Chinese Democracy
Finally. No history lessons folks, let's just say it's finally here.
The Good: The guitars on this album never stay the same. The album weaves through several different styles of rock, with a theatrical overhead in the background to give the whole thing scope. The intro to "Shackler's Revenge" just kicks ass. "Better" has the solid groove that fans of the old Gunners are looking for. The same applies to "Street Of Dreams" and "There Was A Time" (which is the standout track). These two could've easily been on either of the Use Your Illusion albums. But I'm also trying my best not to relate this album to the original GnR lineup that died in the early 90s. "Scraped" and "I.R.S." rock too.
The Bad: It's a good CD released in a time when nobody is buying CDs. "Sorry" and "This I Love" are toss-away songs that make the album a little too long. I also don't care for the cover artwork. Yeah,
The Verdict: This is not the Guns N' Roses that any of us grew up with. Fair enough. I can accept that, and I think deep down you can too. The problem with this record is the name Guns N' Roses. It's a solid album, mixing rock with hip-hop beats and even spanish guitar. It treads in areas that Guns N' Roses never did. It rocks. It's fun. It has a solid groove to it. I'd like to see more from this band. I just don't want to wait another fifteen years for it.
