Dinner For Schmucks
I was pretty excited for this flick when I saw the trailer during Robin Hood. It's the story of a business man trying to get a promotion so he can impress his girlfriend and convince her to marry him. To get this promotion, he's gotta bring a total moron to dinner to be made fun of.

The Good: Paul Rudd is really good in this movie, even though he's playing the same sort of character he tends to play often. His balance with Steve Carell's idiocracy really makes for a new age "Odd Couple" of sorts. Carell plays "Barry", who makes artwork out of dead mice in such a way that you'll think they're cute. Carell is such a good idiot in the movie that when he's told that he's an idiot he's actually proud of it. But it's Jemaine Clement (from "Flight of the Conchords") who steals the show as the bizarre artist Kieran.

The Bad: The movie runs a little long, and honestly I was expecting more screen time of the actual dinner, but I guess the real story is about the friendship that builds between Barry and Tim and not so much the dinner. Zach Galifianakis plays "Thurman" who claims he can control minds, and while he was really funny in The Hangover, I found him to be just boring in this movie. Barry overcomes Thurman by the end of the flick, but early on you can tell that Barry is already his better.

The Verdict: This is a really funny movie, and it contains something a lot of comedies don't have anymore: charm. Anytime you have an ensemble cast instead of a "star studded" cast you've got a winner. So grab your popcorn and extra-large soda and laugh until you pee.
