Supergirl: Cosmic Adventures in the 8th Grade
This is the story of Kara, Superman's cousin. Kara comes to Earth by accident and isn't yet ready to be a super-hero. So Supes sets her up in school so she can learn how to fit in with the rest of the planet.

The Good: It has been a long time since I've enjoyed buying new comics. But the recent Shazam, Wizard of OZ, and now Supergirl series are showing us that comics can still be for kids, but they don't have to be. I'm two issues in, and so far I love what I'm reading. This is definitely SuperGIRL, not some barely eighteen eye candy that you might be used to. This Kara is shy and akward, all the while being curious and enthusiastic. She's an alien trying to fit in so she can grow up like her super cousin. Kara wants to belong, but ultimately feels like she doesn't. That makes this a great read for any young girl about to become a teen.
The artwork by Eric Jones is spectacular. It paces well and captures the innocence of the character and her surroundings.

The Bad: I wish Superman's appearance would've been shorter. I'm interested in seeing Kara on her own. I also don't like the logo. I miss the Supergirl logo of the 80s that was also used for her movie.

The Verdict: Usually I'll wait for a trade paperback of a series, especially if it's just a mini series, but I couldn't wait for this one. At the end of #2 we find out that Kara's new best friend is Lex Luthor's little sister, so we all know that isn't going to work out well...
