The Dilemma
Vince Vaughn is long-time best friends with Kevin James. They're such good friends that they can even swap ladies at a dance. Well, Vince catches Kevin James' wife (Winona Ryder) cheating and has to decide how to tell his best friend that his woman is actually a harlot. All the while Vince and Kevin are business partners working on a new energy-efficient motor for Dodge. How will this dilemma effect their friendship and working relationship?

The Good: Queen Latifah, who I don't think even makes an appearance in the trailer, steals the show in terms of comedy. If you're going to this movie expecting laughs (and believe me there aren't very many), then you'll get them from Latifah. What I do like about this movie though, is how in a time where our society shows in movies and music that adultery is tolerated, expected, and sometimes supported ("you cheat on me, I'll cheat on you back"), we see how messing around affects more than just the main participants. The best moment is actually when Vaughn gives the Kurt Russell speech from Miracle. But that could wait for Blu-Ray.

The Bad: Good thing I hit this flick up on cheap night. For a movie that advertises itself as a comedy there sure aren't many funny moments. Fool me once, fool me twice, I have yet to see a movie where I found Kevin James funny. Vince Vaughn does a great job of playing Vince Vaughn. If you've seen Wedding Crashers, Swingers, or The Break-Up then you won't get much new from him here.
But back to the comedy - seriously, all of Vaughn's and James' funny moments are in the trailer. This movie suffers from the dilemma (pun INTENDED) of which genre it wants to be. Director Ron Howard could've easily made a great drama around the premise. Instead we're left with three or four happy endings just to make sure we get the message that Vaughn and James are still buddies once Ryder is out of the picture. The trailer spends a lot of focus around Vaughn's allergic reaction to those plants, but the movie doesn't... and it should have. It would've had more potent laughs.

The Verdict: The Dilemma could have been two quality movies: a drama about the effects of adultery, or a comedy about the troubles a man gets into trying to show his best friend that his wife is a floozy. Instead it tries to be both, but doesn't try very hard at all. And when you don't try, you fail.
