Devil's Got A New Disguise: The Very Best of Aerosmith
The Good: Sedona Sunrise! I have been waiting patiently for years to hear this song and it's finally on an album! As an avid Aerosmith fan, I look around for demos and bootlegs all the time, and one I came across was a demo called "Sedona Sunrise". It was recorded around the time of 1989's Pump and it was one of the most beautiful things I'd ever heard. Seriously, this song alone is worth the $15.99 for the new Aerosmith Greatest Hits package. The other new song, "Devil's Got A New Disguise" is a great rocker with some tongue-in-cheek lyrics (of course) and it'll definitely get your head bobbing.
The album cover and interior artwork is really cool too. Kinda reminds me of the illustrations from the classic Wizard of Oz books.
The Bad: For us die-hard Aerosmith fans, most of this album is nothing we haven't heard before. If you add up Greatest Hits, Big Ones, Pandora's Box, Young Lust, and Oh Yeah: Ultimate Aerosmith Hits, plus all the live albums, that's a lot of Walk This Way. I also would've liked to have seen Pink on this compilation, cause on the Oh Yeah compilation they put on a crappy remix of it. Aerosmith has released a pile of singles under their contract with Sony since 1997 that they could've released a Hits album with just those and left the classics like Dream On and Sweet Emotion on the other hits packages.
The Verdict: If loving this album simply for Sedona Sunrise makes me a sucker, then I'm a sucker. Aerosmith is supposed to release a new studio album (read: not a greatest hits) in the spring, and if the two new songs are any indication of what I'm gonna hear, then I'm happy. I think for the average fan this is a good hits package. I give it a "B".
