Superman: Doomsday DVD
Loosely based on the #1 Best Selling Comic Book of all time, The Death of Superman, this new direct-to-DVD feature introduces Doomsday to Superman. Doomsday is a killing machine in the form of a large monster that is unearthed by Lex Luthor's goons. Doomsday immediately makes himself known by killing everything in site. He even knocks over some trees for good measure. Superman is up in his Fortress of Solitude with Lois Lane, making out and making the most of X-Ray Vision. When Supes hears of Doomsday, he rushes to stop the rampage. This results in the famous death of Superman. A few days later Superman returns from the grave, but he's much more edgy and bad-ass. Is this the real Superman that we all know and love? Lois certainly doesn't think so either.

The Good: The animation is some of the best Superman animation yet. The Superman/Doomsday battle had me exclaiming "Holy Frig, that was awesome" on more than one occasion. The voice casting fit the characters very nicely, and the majority of character designs were great too. Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane have never better in cartoon form. This DVD is actually rated PG-13 because the violence level is way up from anything that was ever on the Superman or Justice League cartoons. People actually die on screen in this flick. Luthor cold-heartedly puts a bullet in his number one assistant like it's an everyday thing. When Superman returns from the dead he kills the Toyman. And Doomsday kills everything in site, graphically snapping people's necks and going so far as to kill a deer. Yep, killing a deer on-screen is one sure fire way to prove that you're a bad guy. There's a great bonus documentary on the disc that takes us back to 1992 to re-cap and explain the phenomenon that was The Death Of Superman, and if you were there when it originally happened, it'll bring back some fun memories.

The Bad: There are some lines on Superman's face all the time throughout this movie that make you want to grab an eraser and use it on your TV screen. They could've given the movie a different name, seeing as how Doomsday bites the dust about mid-way through.

The Verdict: It's great to watch if you're a Superman fan or just a casual comics/cartoons fan, but if you were there during the Death of Superman and the Reign of the Supermen hysteria of '92-'93 then you definitely must watch this movie.
