Lily Allen - Alright, Still...
I kept seeing Lily Allen's videos on the ol' boob-tube and finally broke down and bought the CD. It was only $9.99, so that's definitely a fair price for a CD these days. It's a bit more "poppy" than the music I normally purchase, but she's a cute chick with a British accent. What's not to like?
The Good: There are some really catchy pop songs on here. You will find yourself walking down the street singing LDN or Smile. It's impossible to avoid, unless you never listen to those tunes and that would be a shame for sure. Alife is as cute as the video, with an underlying tone of what the fuck?. There's a lot of sly humor on the record too, seen in Knock 'Em Out specifically. Some of the record is pretty funky, but for the most part, these are all sing-a-long songs.
The Bad: Sometimes the mix is very instrument heavy and it's hard to hear Lily's pretty voice, especially since you're already trying to listen through her strong accent. The lyric book is nothing more than just lyrics. C'mon Lilly, you're a pretty girl! Some more pictures would've been nice.
The Verdict: This album makes me get up and move. It makes me laugh. And I even find a tint of Cyndi Lauper influence in it. So it's definitely worth checking out. And while you're at it, make the love to it too. That's good as well.
