David Johansen uses his dirty voice to push thru the raunchy guitar riffs, and although you can tell the album has a new sound to it, the basics are still the Dolls. Produced by Jack Douglas (aka king of recording producing), the disc features guest spots by Iggy Pop, Bo Diddely, and Michael Stipe. Standout tracks: Runnin' Around, Dance Like A Monkey, Gotta Get Away From Tommy, Take A Good Look At My Good Looks, We're All In Love. The Bad: We'll probably never hear any of these songs on the radio. They're catchy rock songs, and even though the Dolls have gained legend-status among critics and fans, they aren't pretty EMO boys. But really, isn't not-being-on-the-radio what punk music is all about? There are a couple tracks on this disc I can't help but skip by (Maimed Happiness, and I Ain't Got Nothin') but they don't ruin the record of anything like that. Every album has one or two songs that seem to be there just so you can hit the skip button. The Verdict: If you weren't already a fan of The New York Dolls, you might walk right past this album in the stores. The Dolls only had two albums prior to this, and really, they are all worth checking out. One Day... comes with a bonus Making-Of DVD, so you're definitely getting your $14.99 worth.
