![]() September 22/07. The Merchant Tap House (Kingston ON) I stumbled across Your Favorite Enemies on Myspace a little over a year ago. I liked their sound, and went so far as to put them on my Top 11 Myspace Music list last winter. Sometimes in order to truly appreciate a good rock band you NEED to see them live. Holy fuck, what a tight stage show! And I'm not referring to the fact that they put seven people on the tiny Merchant Tap House stage. The show kicked open and was high energy straight through, with only one or two quick breaks to talk to the crowd. A great stage show is hard to find, especially at the smaller level. I hate seeing bands that just stand there playing their instruments. The way Miss Isabel and Alex Foster share vocal duties is so full of emotion that it really brings you into the songs. Guitarist Sef Lemelin crouches over his guitar with his huge head of hair in a way reminiscent of Mr. Joe Fucking Perry and Slash. If this group has this much energy on such a small stage, I'd like to see what they can do on a larger scale. The band, often referred to as just YFE, treated the crowd to the songs from their EP, And If I was to die in the morning... Would I Still be sleeping with you, as well as tunes that aren't on that CD. They sold the EPs for $5 at the show, which is more than worth it considering the show was free admission. The show itself ran about an hour in length, with most of the crowd having travelled from Montreal to see the show. There was even a song done in french, and even with the language barrier that comes in anglophone Kingston, us Limestonians were still able to appreciate the song. After the show the band were boarding a plane for London for a brief few European gigs.
